About the Portal

The Nova Scotia Accessibility Directorate’s free, on-demand training is now hosted on the Province’s SkillsOnlineNS portal. Employers and public sector organizations can access a collection of webinars for all staff—while easily tracking progress, completions, and certificates.

Easily assign and track training from the library of free programs offered through the Nova Scotia Accessibility Directorate, helping diverse teams build accessible, inclusive, and barrier-free workplace.

This module provides an overview of concepts related to disability, including the social model of disability, the definition of disability based on the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act, disability rates in Nova Scotia, types of disabilities, language used to describe disabilities, and an introduction to accessibility and ableism.

Introduction to Accessibility Barriers and Solutions

This webinar provides an introduction to ableism; accessibility barriers in areas such as information and communications, built environment, systems and attitudes; and ways to barriers through accessibility, accommodations and universal design.

Understanding Ableism

Do you know what ableism is and how it affects the daily lives of people with disabilities? This module is meant to support organizations and individuals learn about ableism and ways to prevent. What is the SkillsOnlineNS Training Portal?

The SkillsOnlineNS training portal is a free online learning platform sponsored by the Province of Nova Scotia that helps employers, employees, and job seekers in Nova Scotia build valuable workplace skills. It is powered by SkillsPass, a trusted training delivery platform developed by Canadian provider Bluedrop ISM, and offers a secure way to access training and manage certificates. The portal provides flexible, accessible learning that can be completed anytime, anywhere to support ongoing skills development.

For employers, the portal makes it easy to assign training, track employee progress, and support workplace accessibility and inclusion goals. For workers it provides flexible learning opportunities to build in-demand skills, enhance resumes, and earn certificates that demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to inclusive practices.
